Wasn't there a bot on Voat that posted an archive of each link in the comments?

There was but this has at times been counterproductive. Raising the barrier to posting slightly would likely improve the quality of posts overall, in my opinion.

I'd draw parallels in car ownership. When someone illegally speeds in their car, you ticket the speeder instead of lowering the maximum speed of the car.

Good ol' Derram! We gotta get him to move over here to the good site!

I do when I can for the obvious cites like Washington Post, CNBC, but I don't bother when I'm posting from my phone. It's a real pain in the ass.

It takes a while too and usually I don't have that much time.

I don't mind a bot personally or anything like that. Even if people don't want it they can go to the original.

or just go to archive.org or something like that. Get an archived version themselves as well.

To be honest, I agree. Too many news sites nowadays use techniques to block those who use ad blockers.

Yes, but the archive sites have bandwidth bills also so you're just passing the buck. Just copy all the text and paste it here instead or find another site that is not nbc related and link to that site instead. Many smaller sites have the same stories and would love the extra traffic.

It also helps when it's partially hidden behind a paywall.

I agree with others that I end up not doing it because of reasons. It would be freakin awesome if a bot did it for every link posted, and then stickied that link as top comment.
