the dark age was most definitly real. but they only lasted around 50 years. from 1347 when the black death hit europe to 1400 when the renaissance started
so its totally overblown but those 50 years did actually suck
Usually, the so called "dark ages" refers to the medieval era, as a whole, not just the black death episode https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Ages_(historiography)
>The "Dark Ages" is a term for the Early Middle Ages, or occasionally the entire Middle Ages, in Western Europe after the fall of the Western Roman Empire that characterises it as marked by economic, intellectual and cultural decline.
huh even wikipedia says that the dark ages never really happened.
it makes sense when compared to the roman empire though, quality of life for sure dropped after its fall
I'm not even sure there was a dramatic fall in terms of quality of life, after the fall of the roman empire
I mean imagine what the roman empire looked like on its last leg...
At the elite level, yeah, intellectual elites, knowledge, lots of stuffs were lost, but for the common man... What's the difference? He still get to live in the same shit, roughly. It's not like the roman empire was some sort of nanny state to begin with, "bread and circus" aside of course...
