The mortality rate of the spanish flu was way higher, maybe it wouldn't have been so high with modern medicine.

I'd be a little less critical of government overreach when the data actually supports that this is something you don't want your family to catch.

Covid-19 is mostly killing older people an honest look at the data shows the risk is pretty much 0 for anyone under 55. The spanish flu was more indiscriminate killing many people under 5 and in even in the 20-40 range.
