The reality in which they live, and all the facts they ever observe or accidentally encounter, run in opposition to their worldview and beliefs. How does life proceed for these individuals without a mental breakthrough or breakdown?

Serious question, I realize we characterize them as "insane" offhandedly, but the human mind will always attempt to make sense of the information presented to it, so they are fighting their own minds.

So they condition their mind's relationship with truth, and the only way to do that is with emotion (chemical responses) to poison the brain's processing of information

Unfortunately, it can be quite stable for a while if you refuse to think to critically.

Because their worldview was created by and continually reinforced by everything they hold sacred. The schools brainwash them K thru 12, then the colleges continue the indoctrination. Leftist MSM then speaks as a singular voice of what is right and what is wrong, always taking the more lopsided liberal point of view. You actually have to work to see the other side. The lazy simply take what others they see as much more enlightened tell them as gospel.

Time and life experiences do tend to get through to many though. One day they awaken and see that there are always more than one side of any argument.

I'm an agnostic myself, but was brought up a Catholic, and to me another huge factor is the way the left has relegated religion in this country into the realm of the unwashed. Without good moral principles as a part of anyone's life, once drilled into society through those institutions, you get what you get. A society bereft of true compassion and proponents of a me first and only attitude.
