How does America recover from this? Obscene amounts spent on military, large standing army, powerful allies, all to project power. But they’ve had their arses handed to them in Syria and Afghanistan in a short period now. Will anybody take power projection from a military that can’t even hold rag tag groups of rebels to stalemates seriously? America is just another nuclear power now, which is obviously still very powerful, but with nothing to really distinguish themselves from any other nuclear power. Fun times ahead as other powerful countries recognise this and start making more power plays themselves.

How about we don't try to nation-build anymore? We had no business being there in the first place - back in the 1980s when Reagan and the CIA were supporting Bin Laden and the Mujahadeen. They set up the conditions for Al Qaeda and the Taliban to be created. This was just a game of hot potato. Whoever was POTUS when we pulled out would be blamed.

What an incredible waste of American soldier's lives, time, and money. 20 years and $2 trillion dollars and we are back where we started. Only now the Taliban have American MRAPs and M4 rifles and modern tech.
