But you should, it is empathy one of the traits of higher intelligence. The parent (which is most likely a single mother) is the one st fault here and should be punished severely, but the kid is blameless, because she knows no evil, she is innocent.

Listen, I couldn't care less for the parent, in fact, I hope they die an horrible death, but then again, the girl is innocent, she doesn't deserve this. I fail to see how empathy for children is a bad thing.
