Hiding exculpatory evidence and charge inflation is standard operating procedure for prosecutors. The judge typically plays along with the game, (quite often the judge is a former prosecutor, and a career bureaucrat). A typical defendant has no recourse to this railroading, unless he is rich with connections, Or The media is playing attention. Of course docket crowding also plays a role.
A lot of these people could get a dismissal if they hold out long enough, and have the resources. Unfortunately, Most will plead to something they knew they could win. But, They twist the screws on your livelihood and family, this all goes up by magnitudes when you sit in a cell contemplating your fate. Most just give in at some point wanting it to be all done with. Welcome to the legal system.
