Frankly I don't see the problem with free birth control, be it condoms or pills. One cannot on one hand decry abortion, then on the other hand whine about BC (that would at least cut down on abortion), unwanted pregnancies, and overpopulation....unless one is a religious zealot tirelessly crying about abstinence, which everyone knows is mostly BS that probably ain't happening. Anything that cuts down on pregnancy or AIDS is a good thing, and yes, if the government can pay for Viagra so that guys can have sex, it can pay for condoms so that they don't get AIDS while having the sex.

First I'd like to say thank you for being here and voicing your opinion that is outside of what most of us think, I really value it when people challenge ideas here, its important to me.

So on the the government paying for BC or Condoms or Viagra, my argument would be either the government covers all of it or none of it, medicine is the one thing I can see a nationalized system working for because human life in my opinion should not be a business, however that being said, it needs to be either one way or the other, for the system to work we need to be all in one way or the other, either all free market or all single payer, run by people selected because they want to maximize life. You cannot have it both ways, it will always always lead to abuse of the system like we have today. A socialized system that is run by capitalists will be abused, a capitalist system that is pushing for government control will abuse it. It has to be one or the other.

Thanks. Much appreciated. I value debate. I would say that is exactly what we have...half of one, part of the other. Like I said, if government is going to finance Viagra so that guys can have sex, then turn around and flip the birdie to BC pills and condoms, to prevent the pregnancy and AIDS that use of Viagra may bring....the only possible message that can send is one of hypocrisy. I am undecided about "a nationalized system" or 'socialized medicine'. At one time I was 100% for it, until I looked deeper into the Canadian version, and now I just don't know. Possibly the EU versions are better, but never looked into it, so I can't say. I am definitely not a fan of capitalism in medicine, so in this I guess we agree, I just don't know what to replace it with.

Its a hard problem to solve, but the solution isn't abusable systems. Someday we'll figure it out.

Something is telling me you are right, I just can't seem to put my finger on what...
