They are really saying that you are no better than they are, in terms of value, to the people who control the decisions being made. To them, you are more valuable as the victim of an invasion where you no longer have any place to call your own and any culture that you can seek refuge in to avoid getting smacked around by people who 'deserve' what you have earned over generations of remaining true to your ancestors. They are saying that what you find repulsive in those who come to degrade and squander what has been worked so hard for, is exactly what they want to see in you and that what you value in your self, they value less than they value the ignorance and willingness to destroy of the invaders.
