Politics and everything else is nothing more than authority enforced by the barrel of a gun.
In this case you did.
You gave them authority to police your behavior when you got your license. It’s all there in the fine print.
Your question also applies to the “authority” of stop lights.
That's duress. Sign this or you can't do anything and I give you almost nothing in return.
Not an enforceable contract under common law, no consideration offered or realistic alternative.
Here, sign this paper or else and I'll fuck your mom. LOL, you signed it, you're my slave now.
The real source of the authority is the gun pointed at your head, but in America we all have them.
So the final source is that most American men are cowards, afraid to die for that freedom they always talk about.

Yes, that is what I'd suggest as well. They have no real authority over any of us. It's entirely a mind game.
The only thing in this world that gives orders is balls.
That isn't the ONLY thing ... pussies give lots of orders.
Men with guns back them up or they don't get followed.
I didn't say they were followed, I just said they give lots of orders.
But, yes, men (with guns sometimes) do back them up (sometimes)..
The authority is the law.
Police officers are employees of the city or state or Federal government, who are authorized to enforce the written law.
They have the authority to issue tickets or summons, or even arrest citizens, who are breaking the law.
Who gave them that authority? Does a nig nog have the authority to rob you for walking past them? Does the joo have the authority to make you their slave? Does a clown in a police uniform have the authority to kidnap and imprison you in a cage? You have done nothing to these people. Surely the man behind that screen wouldn't let himself be man handled like that.
"Who gave them that authority?"
You did, collectively, with the rest of society.
"Does a nig nog have the authority to rob you for walking past them?"
No. YOU are allowed though, to punch the nig nog in the mouth, or kick him in the nuts, for attempting to rob you.
"Does the joo have the authority to make you their slave?"
No, you would have to volunteer for that job, by allowing it to happen.
"Does a clown in a police uniform have the authority to kidnap and imprison you in a cage?"
No, he does have the authority, though, to arrest you for acting like an asshole, if you hassle him.
"You have done nothing to these people."
Perhaps not personally, but by breaking the law, you get the privilege of their attention.
I gave someone authority I don't have to give, simply by being born? After you just agreed these people have no real authority? Interesting
The answer to your question, at least as it pertains to the United States, is in the Declaration of Independence.
True authority only comes from God!
Otherwise, people might sometimes get tricked into submitting to false authority that has no power over them whatsoever except through their level of idiocy and fear (cowardice).
That’s why I never worry about godless Democrats too much. They just whine and bitch without truly making a dent into anything real. They got no true authority over me or anyone really (even with positions as president, police, FBI, and CIA). If you don’t believe in God, you have no true influence in this world. It’s all fake and happening at the expense of people’s stupidity and cowardice only.
Nobody submits to false authority anyways. People might only “play along” unlike with true authority in which case, people truly respect it and genuinely obey it because it comes from God, and thus feels good to obey.
Those who are smart enough to fully obey God 100% and stand bold in faith and grace are completely living outside false influence and fake authority. They are protected by the Holy Spirit.
Godspeed.
"... one nation, under God..." seems to me I heard something like that a few times from somewhere
You admit that he hurt you and wasted your time.
The larger question would probably be, "why didn't you want to hurt him?".
The worst thing you can do to an authority is ignore it.
That can usually be, not always, but frequently, a really dumb move.
Only if one accepts the current state of the human condition
Might is right all else is error.
