US military disagrees. While there isn't anything codified in law yet (federally), the military definition is what will probably be what is used, and states that have defined it are similar to the military definition.
Many Politicians like Feinstein have already introduced legislation which codifies 'Assault weapon', iirc '... as any firearm, able to rapidly fire a projectile with each pull of the trigger and having a magazine capacity of larger than 5 cartridges, that can be quickly changed out'. I just dont think they have the ability to take our guns. I know several cops, and not one of them is willing to go door to door in a gun grab. They won't do a gun grab. People that don't turn in their guns will be "cancelled" -no job, no bank, no credit card, no internet, no travel. This will all be done by private companies so it will be completely constitutional.
