An interesting question to bring before the courts. Good article.

It will probably go the same way as complaining when they sentence you to participating in the AA, which has been ruled a religion by the CA supreme court.

"We'll schedule your hearing for after you've completed your time. Until then keep attending or you'll be in contempt." I'm not kidding, they actually do this.

Do you have a better idea to try and sober up the idiots who get other people killed?

There is absolutely no point in sentencing someone to rehab, or otherwise forcing them. Addicts will only sober up when they want to/feel they have to, not when somebody else wants them to/feels they have to.

Source: not officially an expert in addiction but I am Irish, so basically an expert!

If you got someone killed you should be in prison. Not much booze there.

Courts sentence you to AA if you are convicted of things like DV even if there was no allegation that drinking was involved. 100% of non-cops accused of DV are convicted.
