There is absolutely no point in sentencing someone to rehab, or otherwise forcing them. Addicts will only sober up when they want to/feel they have to, not when somebody else wants them to/feels they have to.

If you got someone killed you should be in prison. Not much booze there.
Courts sentence you to AA if you are convicted of things like DV even if there was no allegation that drinking was involved. 100% of non-cops accused of DV are convicted.

Not much booze but there's plenty of other drugs people turn to to escape. And in the hoosegow is needed more than ever
