George Dubya Bush was a leftist.

Left/right is a false dichotomy. He was a crony of the elites.

"What an impressive crowd: the haves, and the have-(mores). Some people call you the elite, I call you my base."

^Dubya

However, leftism and right-wingery are a true dichotomy. The false dichotomy would be Republican/Democrat, and expecting there to be even a dime's worth of difference between them.

Not really. They change positions on what "left wing" and "right wing" is all the time. And while it's tempting to divide between Marxists and capitalists as left wing versus right wing, was Hitler left wing or right wing? He rejected Marxists, and wasn't completely anti-capitalist, but he was a big government, central authority guy, that put the perceived needs of the nation before individuals and corporations.

Is the divide between liberty and regulation? Is liberty left or right? Liberty used to be considered left-wing. Is it right wing now?
