Socialism begins with distributing stuff to poor people, so nobody falls too much behind.
Again, you're thinking of modern "socialists." While NS Germany had pensions for old people and the like it was nothing resembling a welfare state. Everyone who was able was expected to work, if they were unwilling they'd be left to starve. You could describe some of what they did as redistribution, but it was aimed at preventing people from living off rents and interest (oy vey!) Not taxing working people to give it to niggers who sit around drunk all day.
By not having elections there was no reason to buy votes. You could argue that this wouldn't work in the long term, but it worked just fine in the short term.
