His job is to ensure the well being of the citizens he represents.

No. His job is to represent the will of the people of the state of Texas to our federal government. Civics 101, good sir.

It would be like a firefighter bailing on the fire crew during an inferno to go have a beer.

That's just stupid. Is he a line operator? Nuclear engineer? Wind farm tech? Helicopter de-icing pilot?

If you demand the fed gov't come rescue you every time something bad happens, then you must love the nanny state.

I wonder how much Texas contributes to the federal government in taxes. Maybe some of that should come back when they need something - as if we had a co-op or Union or something where every individual contributed to a fund to provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty. That sounds nice. We should set up something like that.

But since their representatives to the federal government are on vacation, Texas gets a few generators and a tanker truck of diesel fuel. Good luck Texas, thanks for your contributions. Israel, the WHO, and Pakistani transexuals thank you.

Each Texan (including children) pays Washington $1280 / year more in federal taxes vs.federal payments.

And, if you take out Fort Hood and other large military installations, the deficit gets a whole lot worse.

Texas would be just fine as the world's 9th largest economy by GDP without Washington.

This is why the national media wants Texas to look desperate without Washington. Washington needs Texas FAR more than Texas needs Washington.
