Interesting, I went to the actual blog post that this is referencing. Looks to be posted in 2013.

Had to use google translate to look at it. If someone has a better option, please let me know.

Most interesting part to me:
>Again, according to Mikhalych, a new informal service has appeared in Johan. Some tough guys offer the owners of the buildings seized by the ghouls a service to re-release the building. At some point, a couple of hundred strong guys, armed to the teeth and quietly and calmly, trying not to wake up the peacefully sniffing ghouls, drive up to the building, start to squeeze out the building, very harshly suffocating all the invaders. And until they came to their senses and went to ask again: "What actually was that all about?", They weld all the entrances and exits, dig ditches, pull the wire and let the current through it. Then, after the knowledge is brought to life, it is put into operation again.
They have to hire mercenaries to siege a building, secure it, and install defenses so that it can be used as a business/stronghold. A stationary ship floating in a sea of pirates, with no protection. Like a fortified lighthouse in the middle of the enemy's sea. Bastions of economy propping up the very same pirate horde that hunts them.
Louis Theroux did a documentary on this. They refer to it as hijacking buildings and it seemed to be only boers doing the reclaiming. He also meets some fine young melanated gentlemen who told him how they put babies in microwaves to force home owners to give them their belongings. Such a pity covid is restricting my ability to book my ticket to tour with the Lions there this summer with thousands of Brits and Irish who will surely be made feel extremely welcome by the native ghouls.

Law and Disorder in Johannesburg was an absolutely brilliant documentary.
I have actually seen a ytube video that was about exactly this thing, a film crew that kinda scoped out one of these 'overtaken buildings' for the building owners, and followed a group of these paid thugs going in and 'evicting all the squatters' for the building owners, then immediately boarding it up as they were tossing them and their shitty mattresses out on the street and welding the place shut until a clean up crew turns up and then re-open the building for business. Fcking nuts and a complete broken down society ...
I was a bit sceptical of that part tbh, so I went to google maps and took a tour of joburg city center. And what do you know? A bunch of the skyscrapers have fences and hoardings at ground level and skybridges connecting them.
Things may have improved since then (I'm guessing the building owners have expanded their "territory" to keep the scum out) as I didn't see any piles of refuse or broken sewer mains.
