I just took a brief tour of Turffonten and Marshalltown on Google maps. Turffonten looked like a general American ghetto with worse roads. The road I randomly ended up on was completely destroyed. Oh and razor wire around what looked to be a school maybe? Or a small shop I guess because there was a sign that said "toilet inside."

Marshalltown looked like a dirtier New Orleans, and again, I didn't go a single street without seeing razor wire and mostly-heavily-armored shop doors. Not just the typical iron fencing you might find in the ghetto but steel roll down doors. I don't recall seeing that be commonplace in any city, but then again, I tend to stay out of the "Johannesburg-comparable" parts of cities.

I couldn't imagine living in a community with so much distrust. I can't think of animals that live like this... or maybe they're too close to animals in that they exploit any sign of weakness? In any case we'd have better luck studying as the animals they are instead of starting with the assumption that they're human.
