We have private roads here that are up to 15 miles long switchbacking up mountains and the 20+ houses on the road get together and organize what needs to be done and delegates the tasks.

I have to say those roads are nicer than the ones that are town/state maintained, perfect drainage, plowing and sanding when it needs to be done as well as grading and raking. The towns and state have a static grade/rake policy so it needs to be done on a certain day even if there is rain in the forecast. This year they raked and graded the road one day before they knew rain and snow was coming so now we have snow on top of greasy mud... Awesome.
