Mitch loves being in the minority. That's when the money comes pouring in. He just has to sit back and wait for the Dems to come to him, bringing bags of cash for just a couple of his votes. No need to whip 50+ votes, beg Schumer or Pelosi to peel off a couple of their members, or to pay off somebody from his own pocket.
Being majority leader is a lot more stressful and a lot less profitable.
