Any third party candidate would be better than R or D. If a third party gets 10% of the popular vote, they will be able to participate in primaries and debates, which would be a huge advancement. It would also poke a gaping hole in the "but they just can't win!" narrative that these two parties have used to browbeat normies into compliance for 2 centuries.

Trump shouldn't have pledged to not run as third party for 2016. Then he could have picked his own people, subject to Mitch's approval, instead of having to start off with the handicap of POS Pence and leaky "Rinse Pubus".

This should have been done in 2018 and 2020. Trump didn't built any political infrastructure or institutions. When he was nominally in power the GOP would suck up to him, although always subverting behind his back. The political movement was there, the will was there, the direction and mobilization was not.
