A pardon does NOT have to specify a crime; Ford gave tricky dicky (Richard nixon) a full and unconditional blanket pardon and never specified what crimes, if any, that Nixon committed:

The pardon of Richard Nixon (formally known as Proclamation 4311) was a presidential proclamation issued by President of the United States Gerald Ford on September 8, 1974. By it, Ford granted to Richard Nixon, his predecessor, a full and unconditional pardon for any crimes that he might have committed against the United States as president.

Well shit, I'm wrong.

I would say in Nixon's case he had the leverage of trading his resignation for the pardon.

Assange has no leverage. All he has is anonymous internet people nobody gives a fuck about.
