In all honesty there has been a bunch of misdirection, false stories and narratives that surrounds the Assange case. Who knows what is even going on with the guy? By that, I mean, is he even still alive?
I agree about the pardon, though. I'm not intentionally trying to be willfully ignorant, I just haven't been paying too much attention to his case in the past 2 years, at least, but couldn't he just give him immunity of all charges, past and present? Can he even do that?
He is still alive. There are photos from him in the last extradition case. It's up for appeal and he's still locked up. I hope the appeal isn't granted. They're not common in the UK. There is not right to appeal there.
