This should never have been allowed in the first place. No one, no matter what nation, should have dual citizenship as an American. When I was a kid, if someone became a citizen, they were required to take an oath of allegiance to the USA and renounce any other citizenship. Somewhere over time that changed and we've gone downhill ever since.
Somewhere over time that changed
I can't seem to find when the change happened. ____
Dual Nationality
Section 101(a)(22) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) states that “the term ‘national of the United States’ means (A) a citizen of the United States, or (B) a person who, though not a citizen of the United States, owes permanent allegiance to the United States.” Therefore, U.S. citizens are also U.S. nationals
____
(22) The term "national of the United States" means:
(A) a citizen of the United States, or
(B) a person who, though not a citizen of the United States, owes permanent allegiance to the United States.
I have no idea. I only recall being taught in school as a kid that when you became a naturalized citizen it was required that you renounce citizenship of the country from which you came and swore allegiance to the USA. Beyond that, I'm uncertain. But dual citizenship, especially now with all the birthright citizenship crap where Chinese comer here just to have their baby, then go home so the kid is an American citizen ... that crap is BS and should be stopped. Immigrate here and become a citizen, fine ... become a citizen yet still see yourself as a Mexican, whatever, that's BS.
But dual citizenship,....
Agreed
