Since we are witnessing the visions of writers and filmmakers come true right before our eyes, maybe we should also look to the solutions they offered:
Frank Herbert advocated for a holy (Butlerian) jihad (which makes sense, as death becomes a noble goal, not something to avoid or fear, as is true for most westerners right now)
The "sisters" Wachowski thought it has got to be a messiah with super powers (scratch that nonsense)
Orwell had no solution, just the escape in death
Huxley saw no solution, just exile for the few, who did not want to submit
