How Big of a boat (catamaran?) should I be looking at to live on and sail from Washington to Chilie?
36-46 feet monohull*, 1-2 or 1-4 people, lots of safe ports in or and ca and on baja, then puerto vallarta, after that it gets sketchy until panama. Start looking at repoessions in marinas around seattle and tacoma. Shilshole was my old marina, spent many drunken nights at Ray's boathouse. See you on the other side.

How do I learn to do that. I got. A. Canoeing merit badge in boyscouts in the 90s. That is my experience level. Just me, wife, and a 2year old..
Do it as a couple.
If you want to do it fast take the ASA 100, 104, 105, buy a boat and sail a lot. For the most part it's easier and safer than driving a car.
