Not necessarily. The purpose of progress and tradition is not a good or bad thing in of itself. It's a matter of what works to ensure the survival of your people.
Tradition is important, because your ancestors discovered something in the past that increased their chances of survival and it may also apply to your situation.
Progress is important because there are frontiers to explore, and exploring those frontiers may have something of value to increase the survival of your people.
The question here is, is holding on to a tradition that is no longer useful now harming your people? Is refusing to explore the frontier holding your people back?
I'd say there is enough on both sides to say, "Hey knock it the fuck off!" While at the same time admitting there are still some valid traditions to keep and some profitable frontiers to explore.
How do we solve this?
Send the obnoxious progressive elements into the frontier. See a feminist? Send it to Pakistan.
And likewise, Send the Young-Earth-Creationist to the monestary. Because he's harming us too.
Compare the traditional Western world with the modern social progressive world. The results speak for themselves.
Classic tradition ALREADY established itself as that which is stronger.
