I'm not convinced that the military wouldn't follow orders when the time come. I would expect some internal conflict, but nothing that the brainwashed personnel couldn't handle. They probably wouldn't nuke an American town due to radiation fallout. Conventional weapons would be powerful enough to do the job. My comment about Austin was referring to the mass exodus of California's transplants. These bases are not state property, so it really wouldn't matter if Louisiana seceded with Texas.
