I haven't used IRC for 20 years. Thinking of getting back into it. ircii under linux with screen so I can reconnect from anywhere. Should we setup a poal IRC channel; on EFNET? What are our options now.

I never stopped using IRC. I took one look at the Discord cesspit of trannies and attention whores (lol redundant) and noped right back to Rizon.

I used discord for a week or so, and holy shit. I went and subbed to only one or two channels. Within 2 days this fucking kike was complaning about annudah shoah when she was told to STFU. Every. Single. Time. I didnt even have to probe that hard, she whipped out the kike card within 10 minutes of me claiming as much.

Same here. And it is easy enough to run ones own IRC server.

[–] 0 pt

I stopped going; no one was there. (except the weird)

[–] 2 pts

We already have. Where have you been?

[–] [deleted] 2 pts

Doubt we will go back to those. Crackdowns on encryption and free platforms always precedes advances in the same areas. For example, when an encryption protocol is cracked, it motivates the encryption community to develop a better version.

Same goes for crackdowns on open communication. Expect to see some new decentralized/privacy technologies appearing over the next couple years.

A decentralized messaging & communication platform would be amazing at this point. I am fully expecting them to go after Poal, Kiwifarms, chans, etc.

[+] [deleted] 2 pts

They exist. The problem is, relatively few people use them.

I doubt they'll come after Poal. It's not big enough yet to be a threat.

I'm going to just throw this out there, it's totally convoluted and unorganized. I've been copying and pasting from multiple sources, some will be free'er than others and I'm probably missing some good ones:

I guess Undernet

OSCPanon here. I’m building a censorship resistant, fully encrypted and decentralized network for us to shitpost on forever with geographical redundancy. I am also building other sites and hidden services. In the meantime, we can use my IRC hosted as a hidden TOR service. I let it die after my run on /biz/ but I’ll get it set back up and drop info here. Gimme a few days, faggots

There is also bitmessage. It is encrypted and decentralized e-mail service. It also allows for mass e-mails so in theory the mods could setup an account and then if anything happens, they can still send out messages to us. https://wiki.bitmessage.org/Main_Page

My thought previously before we left voat was to start getting servers up in the same "universe" running Lemmy, but the devs are Commietards that hard-coded a word filter system into it because they're flat out retarded (or too incompetent to make it a feature). A fork exists called Lenny, which removes the censorship, but I've not had success in building it.

I code a lot so freenode is a fun place for me now. Back in the day was dal and ef for teh warez.

[–] 0 pt

Almost everyone there was after the warez

Not me. I was there to sell cookies. Not one sale after years of trying.

You ever try to shitpost on a CB, mane?

[–] 0 pt

Problem with CB is range. Need to go Ham, and I don't have the equipment or money for that. edit: formatting

[–] [deleted] 3 pts

Ham? That's it! We can write messages on wild pigs. Finally we know why God put them here! wakamiga1!

[–] 1 pt

Finally a communication method exclusively for gentiles.

[–] 2 pts

A ham radio can be gotten pretty cheap. A baofeng uv-5r handheld can be had for under $40.

I have that exact one, I programmed it with chirp but I can really only hear the state patrol and it only scans preprogrammed channels.

I also have a survival ham/cb 20 foot extendable fancypants antenna rolly thing, but I havent tried that yet.

[–] 0 pt

Every time I mention IRC, I get a pretty negative response. Apparently, it's not anonymous or safe and I'm a fool for considering it, idk... I used to like it! Got the payed version of Mirc, back in the day :) you a cop?

[–] 1 pt

Well, I can access IRC through my sdf.org membership, so my IP is essentially hidden.

[–] 0 pt

I just got my ham radio license.

We all saw it coming, we knew with web and phone proliferation, soon enough the net would simply become the new television.

We knew we shouldnt have followed, but it was where things went.

so ...yea... we're going back to IRC

[–] [deleted] 0 pt (edited )

I still use IRC, try #Poal on Rizon.....
