And government in general using drones against their citizens.

Taken from a related thread.

Every radio signal can be jammed, although this comes impractical because the jammed drone will fly away to a standby point away from your jamming sourc

That just means jamming is good specifically for area denial, which is important because the u.s. government isn't above drone bombing us citizens. And worse, drones are super effective against pretty much all other means of conventional warfare, including insurgency, at least when the government can turn around and blame its mistakes, through a complicit media organ, on say, terrorism. So in a hypothetical showdown between the u.s. government (or western governments) and their own citizens, disabling their drones would be a priority above all others.

More generally, standby points are an exploitable weakness, assuming they're reused. Zone deny an area? Watch for the standby or drone rally point. Move into position. Repeat zone denial. Wait for the denied drones to arrive. Surface to air weaponry or anti-drone weaponry to take out the drone--hypothetically speaking.

Also, unless they're using HAM to bounce signals off the atmosphere, they'll have to remain within a very specific range of the drone, so if you know which frequency range the controlling unit is using (assuming it isn't satellite based), and you know some trig, and some spotters, the hypothetical militia can hypothetically use hypothetically improvised mortars IRA style to hypothetically send a friendly reminder to the hypothetical rogue military elements breaking their oaths, that it is unwise and unsafe to their individual persons to drone the citizenry, and that the citizenry do not like when their own police or military break their oaths to follow unlawful commands.

Hypothetically speaking.

Edit:

Keywords and phrases (for educational purposes only):

  • What is a spark gap transmitter? (highly illegal, thats what. Transmits on all frequencies, jamming them, at least until the hypothetical transmitter is tracked and either drone striked, lol, or arrested)

  • What are parabolic dishes for and where can you find them? (hint: a DSN dish on ones roof is a parabolic dish)

  • Did you know transformers are robots in disguise?

  • Can anti-drone weapons be built from common household microwaves? Find out next time on the next exciting episode of "Shit thats probably or definitely highly illegal"

Do you think they might use 5g from a string of recently launched satellites?

Last I checked the bandwidth from a satellite isn't going to accommodate 5g.

It also attenuates fairly quickly

I'm not up on the specs, but would Starlink's ~100 Gbps provide enough?
