Lt Gen McInerney says US Special Forces were embedded within the protesters. This may have actually been planned by the Trump administration. It would explain why Capitol Police let the protesters in. It would also explain why Trump claimed the Capitol Police were on the side of the protesters.
The goal was to obtain Pelosi's laptop and other relevant tech. This is supposedly why she is freaking out right now (calling the Joint Chiefs of Staff, etc) and why they want to impeach Trump now instead of letting him wait another 11 days for his presidency to end.
