You would be a muslim if it wasn't for Christianity.
I'm pretty sure Europe would be all the religions that were here until Christianity came and fucked that up. It's like in an alternate time line where everyone is muslim, saying how we should be glad to be Muslim, cause otherwise, everyone would be Christians. There were religions before Christianity.
As for the crusades shielding use from muslims, look beyond the media propaganda about the crusades, cause only one time did it actually fight off muslims. Heck, the reason muslims spread into Europe was cause the fourth crusade looted and burned Christian cities that didn't pay them protection money. It's the reason Constantinople fell.
There were tribes of pagans scattered across Europe. They enslaved each other and had no loyalty to each other. Christianity was the only thing that united Europe. The protestant reformation was the major downfall of Europe. It fractured Christian Europe making Europe weak. For example, Protestants hated the Catholic Church so much they refused to lend a hand in fighting off muslim invaders. If it wasn't for Catholic Europe's success at the Battle of Lepanto, Europe would of fallen into Muslim hands. The disjointed pagans tribes were no match for the muslims unlike the Holy Roman Empire.
