When someone says that voter ID laws are racist ask them the simple question "Why are they racist? Why would being required to show an ID affect blacks more than whites?" This question can only be answered in one way. In order for voter ID laws to be racist there must be something that prevents minorities from getting an ID and that in turn prevents them from voting. So what might prevent someone from getting an ID? * **They are too stupid to get an ID.** This is the one that they actually believe but will avoid saying it at all cost. If they are stupid enough to say it have fun calling them a racist Nazi. * **They are too poor to get an ID.** This is BS. Voter ID laws all have provisions for providing ID for free if the person cannot afford it. Early voter ID laws lacked this provision and were struck down by courts. Have fun telling them they need to get their arguments out of the 1990s. * **They don't actually live in the precinct they are trying to vote in.** So voter ID would prevent election fraud * **They are not actually eligible to vote** AKA they are illegal So voter ID would prevent election fraud. * **They are currently on the run from the law with outstanding warrants** If they go to get an ID they will get arrested at the DMV. Have fun putting them on the spot about race based crime statistics. They have to admit that minorities commit more crime in order to claim that voter ID laws are racist.
