Completely understand. I had a shit German teacher in HS. Three years of German and I learned fuck all. One semester in college kicked my ass into gear. Great instructors make all the difference.
If you want to learn German I would suggest starting with listening to German music and watching stuff in German. That helps with the cobversational and pronunciation side of the language.
