I read it as pointing out the obvious. The Federal government offers special tax advantages for organizations that fall under 501(c)(3). You don't pay taxes, you don't get to say shit publicly about who should be elected. The letter says don't take materials from outside organizations because they could be seen as electioneering. That goes for other charitable organizations - one that I'm a part of locally also identifies as a 501(c)(3) and, while I know it's just killing them to have to keep their mouths shut, they do because it means they'd lose the corp hard otherwise.

The church that took out a full page ad was just stupid.
