Technical legal variations on local self defense laws aside, it's the problem of partisan judge and jury essentially, in the end There's a thing called "jury nullification", basically you're deemed guilty as hell but jury says no you aren't and you're free to go. I caricature a bit but that's the overall concept. And it goes both ways of course, your case isn't exactly a clear cut case, and the jury wants you to go down because it's trendy to send you to prison essentially. It can happen, it's rather rare, but it can, especially when it gets political and it's partisan bs. But I'm not an expert on US laws, depending on the state, the fact of trespassing and shouting threats as a mob can be ground enough for open season. But if you do that... There can be more than legal fallout... Some people might want to get back at you regardless of what the law/judge/jury said. People have brothers, sisters, you get the idea
