Yeah, when the prescription for a position/job has nothing to do with merit, and everything to do with how popular the optics are... we're in trouble. I guess the same could be said about single-issue (abortion or gay marriage, usually) Republicans voting for someone who is "pro-life", regardless of their other qualifications.
