“When somebody’s the president of the United States, the authority is total” within the limitation imposed by the constitution...
Maybe he meant over certain institutions that are supposed to follow orders when he gives them... You know, obama era leftover giving into "resistance"/sabotage...
Great point. Trump is one of the worst orators ever. He speaks in headlines, expecting people to know what is in his head, where the details are.
He wants to impose the end of lockdown... At least he can do it on a federal level, that's a given
Now if states object at local level... Well then I guess they will, it's going to go to court, etc...
America can turn into a full blown chinese dictatorship if states AND the federal government are on board with a common totalitarian program, and that's without taking into consideration that the judicial system has to be on board with that too, or at least de facto mostly excluded from the equation, somehow.
Now if one oppose the other... It's going to drag in court for years
For that to happen you would need a cartel of private interests to takeover the whole... Local(s) and federal positions.... That's not impossible while it's a also fucking stretch.... Half of the whole is one thing, all of it, and maintain that position... That's an entire different ballgame, especially if the citizenry starts to go batshit insane over it, it can only be done covertly and on a rather long period of time, incrementally, with a special war time situation, perpetual, on top of that, to justify constant overreach, new normal over new normal
One could argue that we're almost there, and that without trump it would have turned to an entire different level of orwell already

Right, with Hilly in the WH, 'lockdown' would be something else...
Good points.
