China: Shuts down factories.

Market: Is Effected

People: How could this happen!? :O

"It's almost like there are real life consequences now!"

I wonder if the Trump-haters in the CDC are spiking the market on purpose.

[–] 0 pt (edited )

Well they can always try, but that's not "how it works"

Trump haters can spin shit all they want, that's not what gets factored in the end, they aren't the only bullshitters out there trying to manipulate markets their way

...

You have a permanent sea of fears and bad news, which carries within itself a potential for risk, look at wars, look at all shits, government shutdown public deficits, borders, brexit, youNameIt

Markets are used to that, just a rumor or an overblown rumor isn't going to cut it, it has to materialize in any meaningful way before anyone starts to really pay attention, it's not as if good news was the norm

If it fails to materialize in a meaningful way it's jut business as usual

What's real is that factories are paralyzed, and not just a couple of random factories in an irrelevant country, it's in china, the world's factory, everybody relies on supplies from china. It's not a matter of "make a wish", shit is stuck. You can always put a gun on workers' head, they aren't going to perform well on production lines if they are sick en masse, if they are able to do anything at all to begin with, aside from coughing to no end. You can always attempt to relocate but it takes time and it's not cost free. Needless to mention that it's not going to be cost efficient as it used to be in china.

It has to be factored in, you have no choice, it's not just a "maybe"

...

Now I get that the anti trumpers want it to blow over in order to blame trump, but that's retarded. Nobody's going to buy that. First because even if they could print their way out of this, trump has no direct authority over powell and the federal reserve and central banks to begin with. Second, because trump isn't that freaking virus, it's nobody's fault, shit happens and has its consequences. Even chinese with their totalitarian population control failed to prevent the virus from going global. What is trump supposed to do then? It's like blaming trump for an asteroid strike and its economic consequences essentially, it's non sense

Nobody's gonna buy it? You're overestimating the intelligence of the average CNN / MSNBC viewer.

If trump appears to underestimate/downplay the shit, then yeah it's going to backfire on him. He's going to be labelled incompetent, or worse, "sacrificing innocent lives to save mister market"

>Trump should stay away of this as much as he can, this is a lose lose situation and there's objectively nothing he can do about it aside from declaring martial law and state of emergency... Just default on the good old "competent people and institutions are working on it, and we're following the situation very closely, next question please" type of political stance. Just stay vague and distant, don't downplay, don't overplay

Highly predictable

Markets are going to get fucked on this one no matter what, it's a no brainer. For trump now it's a matter of political posturing, there's nothing he can do to make autoparts fall from the sky

[–] 0 pt

He's furious because it exposes his lies

Let's be honest here, the dem bandwaggon is pushing the panic mode for all the wrong reasons, and as usual it's going to backfire on them

Where trump is wrong is to label this as mere flu, he's going to look like an idiot if he insists with that, and evidently dems won't miss the opportunity to point that out, for all the wrong reasons but that's another topic

If the stock market tanks hard, make no mistake, the poor will get fucked hard as well

So yeah in a sense the stock market is "more important than people", because if you have a pandemic that's bad enough, an economic and financial collapse on top of that isn't going to ease the pain

...

That's what dumbs fail to realize, the low prices you have on the shelves, the goods everybody but especially the poor relies on, that price on the shelves isn't just a random number
