Pence would take over anyway, keeping things unchanged, party-wise.
Just playing devil's advocate, if the Republicans were plotting to impeach Trump, that would sound like a reasonable motive.
That's a good point. It would still lead to a lot of pissed off voters.
Yeah, I doubt they'd want to alienate Trump supporters to that extent, so I'd say they're probably making preparations for something else. But still, I wouldn't entirely discount the possibility of them just saying "Well hey if you don't like it, screw you. What, are you going to do about it? vote Democrat?".
The US is ripe and ready for a new party. Trump has the money, the backing of Israel, and could actually pull it off. This is why I don't think he's going to be convicted. Some Republicans may vote that way to appease people in their home states. 67 votes is going to take a lot of Republicans to essentially proclaim that they are part of fhe deep state.
