My daughter does the nails and lashes. She pays $100 a month for new lashes and nail refills, but she had hers done for her so it might be cheaper if you do it on your own. Make up costs her another $30 to $50 a month if you include cleaning and face cream and all that. I know $150 a month ain't shit in this economy, but really it does add up. (My daughter lives with me)
When I was 20, not that damn long ago, we paid $180 a week to live at our shit apartment in the ghetto. It was so ghetto that we had to pay weeklu just so the slum lord could kick people out easier. This is back when minimum wage netted you less than $300 a week take home. My husband worked two jobs and I worked one to get the fuck out of hell. We never saw each other. Probably why we ended up divorced. However, we both ended up in better places after because we had built up equity that we could split and move on to better housing.
Why does everyone run to Daddy government. How about you all work together, rent a house together, save your cash by having 5-10 room mates like I did before I got married, and buy a house after a year or thrr living like that? Why do you kids always need to be baby sat by the fucking government. GROW UP and find solutions to your problems. What is stopping you form hooking up with 4-6 friends and renting a place together? NOTHING. Stop ruining the world for the rest of us because you can't handle your own shit.
People can and do share rooms, in fact...my long term plan for my renal units IS to rent by the room rather than the apartment.
That being said, I don't think it's normal for a couple making 150k/yr to have to take on a roomates in order to keep their housing costs within 35% of their take home pay. That's exactly what's happening in major cities. In your 30-40's you should be able to afford a two bedroom home and children without subletting.
Reality is that the government creates money, that is used to make luxury housing, that dries up prices for everybody. They need to stop creating money at the taxpayers expense!
