The real problem is that we don't have a random lottery of midnight basketballs that are actually.. um, yeah, actually I don't think I can say that.
Lets just say that they have a internal counter that if they go bouncy too many times they do a thing that you could hear/see from a few blocks away and very little would be left of that "court". I think there is a red/White Pokémon that does that if you hit it too many times.
