Yes, there are non-thinking zealots and NPC's on every side. It is unfortunate.
The sad truth is that most people are barely existing at all and have few thoughts beyond the minimum to get them through a day. If just 1% of the "top" of the people in the world were to just not exist tomorrow the entire planet would be back in the dark ages in weeks at best.

I don't know about that.. There would be some initial shock and confusion and probably some rough seas as we re-learn knowledge/details lost regarding some specific procedures/processes, but we would just hold emergency elections for key positions. The corporate world would just promote the next man up to CEO and any other necessary executive positions to resume business as usual.
The worst that would happen would be isolated incidents where some people attempt to take advantage of the disarray.
NPCs would continue operating on their existing subroutines.
The world doesn't stop turning for anyone.
Im talking about the people that actually do the work and make the world turn. not CEO's and politicians.
A fun thing to look up sometime if you are bored are "things humanity forgot".
One of them was the cure for scurvy in UK/Europe even though it was widely known in shipping and transit for a hundred or more years.
If too many of the people that "know stuff" die off or forget the knowledge is lost for a time. That includes in society's with written language. Look at the literacy rates in the USA for highschool grad's in multiple major cities. It is shocking how bad things have gotten.
They can use TikTok but they can't read or write. That is what I am talking about. When the "lights go out". All they will know is "tiktok not work" and will have no ability to make it work and will probably become violent towards the people that could get it working again. Society collapse can happen faster and in more insane ways than you would ever expect.
