Bezos is a POS, but he is smart (or at least whoever is the real power behind him is). He recognizes that your brainwashing doesn't work if no one trusts you. As he pointed out in his own (direct link to WaPo is you care) trust in MSM is at an all time low.

He is trying to pivot to keep MSM influence and attempted brainwashing relevant. By attempting to appear to be less partisan he can potentially re-win influence that has been lost.

It's noteworthy that it's from the WaPa, which matters a lot more than if it was from say the Orlando Sentinel or some other lesser paper. The WaPo has both 1) been a maker of news, in that by being the de facto talking piece of the capital if they cover a story virtually every other news organization in the country does as well, and 2) has been known to be under the influence of glowniggers since long before even Bezos got involved. So you can bet that he'll be the first domino to drop and you'll see much MSM appear to try to be less partisan, try to win back the brainwashing power.

They can punt this election, accepting that they'll settle for Orange ZOG even if the totally bot candidate losses. They think that can be a trigger to get other news organizations to try to put back up the veil neutrality as well so they can collectively regain lost brainwashing power. Note that notorious scamdemic profiteer Patrick Soon-Shiong did the same thing with his LA Times.

Bezos's investment in WaPo is virtually nothing in terms of his total fortune. You can be sure he is not changing policies because he cares about its relations with Trump or whoever wins their magicians choice (s)election.
