I once tried applying for welfare money (judge if you want but times are hard), and in order to get it, you need to give permission to the state to pursue your husband in the court of law to force him to pay child support. Even though they tax the single working men to hell and back to help pay for the system, the only way a mother can get assistance is if the man is out of the picture and they can force him to pay child support, otherwise they will throw him in jail if he cant or wont pay. Also, they obligate the mother to sign a document that signs her right of attorney over to the state.
