I gotta tell ya, that is something. I understand 'not taking the lord's name in vain', however, that means 'in vain', or in a manner unbefit of God. I want to point out that if you refer to 'God' as 'G-d', you are still referring to God. So this sort of censoring does nothing to alleviate the offending statement. And if the statement is offending to God in the first place, the answer is not to censor the name, it's to not make the statement. The censoring is admittance that the statement is wrong in the first place. It really does seem to me that this is not about respect for God, but a fear or aversion in saying his name.
