My family had to fight a police dept once to get guns out of Illinois and use out of state laws to quote to them and apply to my family as non-citizens of Illinois to get them to release it. Basically, if a relative dies in that state and owns guns and police go on the property during body removal, if they see guns, they'll just take them and hold on tight to property that doesn't belong to them. Then Illinois police try to apply Illinois law to anyone wanting to transport guns in their state (even if all you want to do is take them out), but you have to apply your own state law to say that Illinois doesn't apply to you as you are leaving with your property.
