Don't get me started on firmware upgrades. My old Dell XPS computer would crap out every so often and refuse to load the BIOS. I'd have to take stuff out, power it down, and drain the capacitor to get it to boot. Finally I learned that it needed a BIOS upgrade. This whole line of Dell computers had the same damned problem. People had been replacing their motherboards over it. So I got the box to run, loaded the new BIOS onto it, and installed the new BIOS. I got a screen saying "BIOS successfully upgraded." Then I turned it off and turned it back on. It wouldn't load the new BIOS. I haven't touched the damn thing since, and when I get around to it I'm going to scarf out the harddrives and fire the box into the trash. It's not even worth trying to save the power supply since Dell uses proprietary power supplies.
