Why is engine braking bad? I usually engine brake but I do it at a distance that I know will get me to speed limit as I cross the boundary of the new lower speed.

That would require the other truck drivers to stop staring at their phones, come on man!!

It's 🤡 🌎 2021.

When you press the accellorator to the car propels itself forward, when you press the brake it applies the brake to slow the car down. If the car is moving fast and you have your foot on neither the accelerator nor the brake then the resistances in the engine will gradually slow the car until it either stops or reaches first gear (automatic) and just start chugging along in first.

Why is engine braking bad?

It's not bad for the truck. It's loud and annoying to the townsfolk.

That I can appreciate - except one should not engine break from 60mph down to 30 inside the town, it should be done before reaching the town.
