I had battered, deep fried alligator on a business trip in TX once, I can't remember the name of the restaurant. It wasn't as spicy as this recipe sounds and the pieces of meat were no more than an inch in size. I thought it was very good! I don't remember the alligator itself having a lot of flavor but the coating and dipping sauce was perfect. I'd have it fairly often if it was available where I live, very tasty!
